Rock Songs with Literary Themes
Real Crash- Looking at the Financial System and the War Drive:
Those were the days my friends;
When idiocy wasnt a virtue;
When people tried to have a few ideas;
Even pop songs had content;
Though they were decadent thinking of career;
(Spoof song- Those Were the Days)
Its nice to remember when even counter-culture icons tried to at least pretend that they had ideas. After all, music is based on ideas, both of the low and higher sort. Take the band, Pink Floyd. Other than projecting total British decadence and hopelessness, they had a few ideas mixed in. Their song, Childhood's End, was loosely based on the Arthur Clarke science-fiction book, Childhoods End. That book itself was about a bunch of sneaky aliens. (Who were really the British Fabians and Liberal Imperialists, Limps, in disguise.) The aliens convince the nations of the world to abandon war, with their own ability to block out the sun on a selected area. Then a globalized world government is formed. All the nations acquiesce. Next, the aliens decide that man has to unite in cosmic consciousness" and abandon their bodies and physical reality.
See I told you globalization sucks. Maybe Arthur Clarke wanted to warn you about it. We can't even afford free trade anymore with the more expensive oil and transportation anyway. Time to go back to the American System of Political Economy.
