Get Back to New York, Get Back to New York
Guess I’m a bit into a John Lennon flashback, so “Get Back to New York”. And after living in New Jersey for fifteen years it was really good to get back to New York, even if it was only the Bronx. (We’ll have to get you the Dakota pictures later…)
By the way, the real estate market has a weird way of influencing other personal decisions. Say in the 90s and from 2001-to present, you met a woman who was compatible, and you were a single adult male. Other considerations could come into play. Like, “Does she live on a block where it’s possible to park?” In a lot of neighborhoods in New York, despite the subway system that is impossible.
Second in 2005, someone with a one bedroom apartment under partial rent control, with a possibility of a conversion to a second bedroom, for only $800 a month-- that can be very sexy. I mean it, if you need something to clinch the deal….that’s it.
St .John the Divine
Anyway, what’s the deal about St. John the Divine? Well, it’s the largest cathedral in the world, at least Episcopal cathedral, on West 110th St. in New York, near Columbia University. And both of them are large landlords in the area too. Now that you may have read on my blog what it costs for a 2 bedroom in Soho (but it’s really a penthouse and it’s 2500 square feet and it’s gorgeous. It’s worth $6 million.), how about a more down to earth, student-y, even family neighborhood?
Well, if you check out listings in the New York Times, you’ll see a lovely little rental of two-bedrooms, on Manhattan Ave, steps from Columbia University, for only $2,500 a month. If you can afford it, check out the A.C. Lawrence website, and call Abbey….for real. It’s pre-wired for Internet, and it’s definitely pre-war (WWI). At least they built more solid walls back then. I’ll have to tell you about the ghouls at St. John the Divine some other day. But, have you ever heard the term “Episco-pagan”? Of course they’re not the only ones.

I gotta say, I'm pretty much accustomed to everything in the US being big. I remember looking up an practically getting vertigo trying to find the ceiling.Figured that was the hangover.
Can't say I'm big on churches anyway. I prefered that circluar monument in the adjacent part and the sweet goodness of the Hungarian Pastry Shop across the road. Yay for the rainbow cookies.
Real Crash
As for the circular monument, I think you mean the one with the smiling sun figure in the middle. That is a cultic icon to the joys of "Sun day" and "Earth Day", from 1970s. These were themes of the Anglo-Dutch-French-and American oligarchy on getting rid of the American republic, and going back to feudalism and the new dark age. I think all greenie stuff is
for the benefit of the ultra-rich, since no matter how hard it is to run the economy, they always get theirs,
more or less.
Ever hear of the "Knights of St. John"? They're older than the Mafia, and have their induction ceremony at St. John the Divine. Nominally they are loyal to the British Queen, but their real loyalty is to the monetary "system"....Of course
there is some legitimate stuff at St. John the Divine. I once heard a quite decent Bach's "St. Matthew's
Passion done there on an Easter.
