I've been thinking about what similarities there are between New York and cities in Australia. Actually, Sydney is more like a Boston, or a San Francisco, while I'm beginning to think Melbourne is more like a New York. Even though Melbourne and Sydney are similarly sized cities, Melbourne has a bigger population in its suburban area. Business-wise the Melbourne business community is better known in New York. For example, they have a huge cardboard recycling plant in Staten Island, NYC, NY, which is based in Australia.
The Billionaires from Melbourne
It is owned by a certain family, the billionaires from Melbourne. Their son Anthony married an American woman and she was eventually divorced, sad to say. They married in the Summer of 1994 at Anthony's lavish apartment at the Sherry-Netherland Hotel, by 59th St and Fifth Avenue, next to the famous Pierre Hotel. Across the plaza, there is the famous Plaza Hotel, which is now being renovated and turned into one of those obnoxious Hotel-Condo type things.
The younger Oligarch, ended up singing the Guess Who Hit,..American Woman, Get away from me--hee, I don't need your folks on the dole, I don't want your birth control... Apparently, the poor thing is unable or unwilling to reproduce, despite his wealth.
Hard to believe, but with all this under the belt, they were still seen having lunch recently at Cipriani's, in the lobby of the Sherry-Netherland.
